Below are some photos of a roadtrip I made in search of a film I wanted to make. I ended up going back in 2021 with a crew of four and one actor (my son). I acted in the film as well. Lots of things happened between this reconnaisance trip of 2016 and the film being shot in 2021. Best laid schemes of mice and men…
I just finished the post production on the film. The experience of shooting the film was magnificent! The sky, the landscape, the intimate crew, acting, the old car, all of it, splendid! What becomes of the film remains to be seen. The film is titled, A Wondrous Blue. I’ll work on getting a page up for it soon. Below is a photo of me in my acting debut and a shot of my son and I dwarfed by the landscape.
When I returned from shooting, I was so taken by the area of the province, that I purhased a house in the town of Eastend, over a Facetime call with a realtor. Crazy! Then I moved out there for a year while on an academic sabbatical in 2022. Crazier!
I finished editing the film out there, as well as wrote a manuscript for a novel and launched a series of winter self portraits
Previously,
In August and September 2016, I undertook a road trip from Montreal to the south west corner of Saskatchewan, to the borders of Alberta and Montana. I shot 16 and 35 motion picture film, anamorphic, spherical, colour, b&w. The trip was part of my research for a new feature film I wrote, Harlan Falls. After 38 days and 11,000 kilometres, I had a basket full of ideas and many feet of exposed film. Somehow I sifted and distilled everything through the writing.
